POPULATION AND SETTLEMENT:
China is the most populated country of the world with 1.33 thousand million inhabitants. Natural increase was limited in some areas of China and population density is high although rural population predominates. Japan has 127 million inhabitants. Population density and urbanization are very high. Life expectancy in Japan is high (82 years) but natural increase is low, almost negative.
ECONOMY:
China liberalized its economy and it works in international markets. However, agriculture still is one of the most important economic activities. On the contrary, Japanese primary sector is limited and has a very competitive industry, key for their economic development. The main industries are electronics, computing and automobiles. South Korea, Taiwan are new industrialized countries have achieved a quick economic development based on industry.
CULTURE AND SOCIETY:
The three main religions in China are Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Japan preserved its traditions making them compatible with their economic growth. Japan has high levels of social equality.
POLITICAL SYSTEMS:
China and North Korea have communist regimes while Japan is parliamentary monarchy.
